Title: | Discovering patterns of interconnectedness | Authors: | Lee, Zhao Pei | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Design | Issue Date: | 2015 | Abstract: | Interconnectivity is the essence of the living world (Capra 1989). It is the organizing principle of the universe (Senge et al. 2004) and is central to what the world is, how it has been shaped over time, as well as how organisms live within it. However, this interconnected relationship is so pervasive that it fades into the background, resulting in only the apparently separate “things” of the world are noticed (Macy 2007). Becoming conscious of relationship allows a tightly interconnected web of existence to be revealed. Human society faces environmental & social threats as a result of unsustainable behaviour and values. The root cause of these problems is the inability to perceive this interconnectedness (Evitts et al. 2010). There is thus, a need to develop an increased perception of interconnectedness. This project aims to develop a learning experience to promote an interconnected worldview. Inferring the fundamental energy pattern in nature, the project seeks to visually communicate and facilitate understanding through metaphorical expressions of research findings in terms of pattern design. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/63303 | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
