Title: The design and safety features of the pebble-bed gas cooled reactor
Authors: Low, Wei Hong
Keywords: DRNTU::Engineering::Nuclear engineering
Issue Date: 2015
Abstract: The purpose of this report was to provide a summary of the design and safety features of the Generation IV Pebble-Bed Gas-Cooled Reactors under the Very High-Temperature Reactors family. In this report, the author will provide details on the fundamentals of the essential physics needed in the understanding of nuclear physics, from the concepts of isotopes to radioactive decays and fission. The report then continues on to the basics of a nuclear reactor before going on to brief description of the different gas-cooled reactors throughout the different generations. The report then details about the design and safety features of the gas-cooled reactors of different generation and conclude by a discussion of the future prospect of the VHTR and its application in Singapore. In conclusion, the report will detail from the basics of nuclear physics to the design and safety features of the different gas-cooled reactors. The report will then conclude with the future prospect of the VHTR and the author’s opinion on its applicability in Singapore.
