Title: | The development of a prototype smart home automation system using microcontroller | Authors: | Lim, Zhi Lun | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering | Issue Date: | 2015 | Abstract: | This report aims to demonstrate the implementation of a Smart Home Automation System (SHAS) using a prototype with features such as having the ability to control switches/lighting, monitoring energy usage, etc in a house. This Final Year Project (FYP) focuses on the hardware prototype and control circuits, and the author has built a model of a simple house to exhibit the aforementioned features. The model follows the layout of a current typical 5-Room Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat. Using LED lights, fans, motor and switches to represent the appliances in a home, this model serves to simulate the actual implementation of SHAS by consumers. This hardware model will be integrated with the software development using a Microcontroller Unit (MCU). Thereafter, users can control the electrical components in this model on a dedicated webpage via internet/intranet. This webpage can be accessed from any web browsers such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer etc. In addition, the author has also developed an Energy Tracking System (ETS) which allows users to monitor the daily energy usage in their homes from the webpage. The ETS also comes with an automated monthly report feature, whereby an email consisting of the summary of energy consumption will be sent out to users at the end of every month. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/63931 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
