Title: | Research into the design and safety features of AREVA designed evolutionary power reactor (EPR) | Authors: | Ow, Roey Zhen Rong | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Nuclear engineering | Issue Date: | 2015 | Abstract: | Nuclear power plants had proven from the years of usage to be a cheap electrical generator, thus more effort are placed into designing safer and more economical reactors. EPR is one of the generation III+ reactors that is designed by AREVA and is promoted to be a safe and economical reactor competitive to other reactors in the market. In this report, the design and safety features of the EPR will be investigated to understand the special features that are provided by the EPR which defers it from the generation II reactors. The design of main components of the reactor will be explained. The improvements in the safety systems of provided by the EPR will also be investigated. Next, the economical benefits that are possible from the new design are also reviewed.
