|Title:||RE- interactive gaming platform||Authors:||Lye, Duane Dun Wei||Keywords:||DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Design::Product||Issue Date:||2015||Abstract:||RE- is a board gaming platform that fuses both the textile qualities of analogue gameplay and the perks of having a digital interface which allows permutation of changes, conditions and complicated calculations which would be difficult to manage for an analogue board. RE- has gone through countless transformation from the time the idea was born to the end product. RE- was born from my observation of board games as compared to other games currently in the market. I felt that board games lack that lustre that keeps players coming back or stay engaged over long periods of time. As in traditional board games, the same board with a predestined map / path / terrain is used no matter how many times you play the game. There was the absence of change, apart from the variable factor of how the player would react. Constant change that affects decisions and outcomes were needed to keep people engaged. After doing much research on what makes a game appealing, besides change, there are also other factors that makes a game appealing which I have found out. The relationship between a game and its game board (platform) in a board game is closely intertwined with each other and at times I have been very confused to what I was creating. Was it a game or a platform? RE- started off initially as a board game, however as time passed it was moulded into a gaming platform where multiple games could be adopted to play on it and enhance the already great gameplay. RE- sets out as a pioneer in the gaming industry, where a board gaming platform could add weather conditions and interactive / destroyable environments. With stackable gaming tiles, RE- also adds a Z-axis to allow players to play in a 3D space. With all these features, it will allow players to be only limited by their imagination to find ways and strategize around a problem / task.
