Abstract: Since an operating system has been integrated in smart phone, a variety of applications have been development, which made them not only used as a communication purpose, such hand-held devices has almost replaced transitional desktop computers. They has became a necessity for people of all ages in daily life. Kinds of applications provide people more comprehensive and convenient survey, for instance, ente11ainment, business and learning. As for my project, I will study and research an application that satisfy people who are traveling abroad. A practical application are introduced in this dissertation. There are many images around us which also contain text infonnation. It is very much desirable to understand the foreign text inforn1ation when we are traveling in a foreign country. This project is to investigate the current possibilities provided in the market to perform the above operation on smart hand phone. It is hoped to have a system that is able to extract and translate the text information in the images. Firstly, this repo11 states the background and development of OCR and translation techniques, then introduces how to install the Android application development platform. Secondly, using a set of figures to demonstrate the development process of this application and shows the results. In the end, this paper illustrate the effectiveness and quality of the rusults and put forward the improvement methods. Key words: OCR, translation, Android application development
