Abstract: When discussed the topic on ex-offenders, many would think that both male and female ex- offenders faced identical challenges in their reintegration back to the society. However, this is a misconception. As compared to male ex-offenders, female ex-offenders are often troubled with relationship issues. For those with families, female ex-offenders are required to take on immediate responsibility over their children or sick family members, which may cause them to face tremendous emotional stress. On the other side, male ex-offenders tend to face financial issues as they are viewed as breadwinner of the family. The society has always labelled the female ex-offenders as “bad women” unconsciously, and this is unfair and stressful for women during their recovery journey. They feared to be judged, and thus more unwilling to seek help openly. With the increasing awareness of ex-offenders through programmes such as Yellow Ribbon Project, we are intrigued to find out more about the small community of female ex-offenders who usually shy away from media limelight.
