Title: | 释怀的日子 = Those days are gone | Authors: | Yeo, Jing Xiang Goh, Ashleigh Hua |
Keywords: | DRNTU::Social sciences::Mass media::Broadcasting::Motion pictures and films::Documentary | Issue Date: | 2016 | Abstract: | • Purpose of project: The purpose of the Project is to record and investigate the Chinese-educated community in the 1960s to 1980s and how they have adapted to the modern society. By different alumni of different schools, the different stories and choices they made at the time each led to a different outcome and outlook. • Design/Methodology/Approach: Alumni from various Chinese schools, including Catholic High, Hua Yi Government Chinese Middle School and Nanyang University were interviewed. The approach to this topic is to be balanced and not one sided in terms of the argument, as it is explored how each of them struggled with different obstacles. • Findings: Plenty of interesting historical facts were mentioned on the project, particularly relating to the special preparatory course required to enter University of Singapore, and the building of ASEAN Nanyang University in Bintan. It is also observed that the alumni all recognize the change as an inevitable move for the nation’s progress, but the sentiments linger when their identity as Chinese school students remains. • Originality/Value: My project touches on a community in Singapore that is largely overlooked even though there are plenty of them in the society. While Chinese schools have been credited in media and through exhibitions for their contributions, their students have went through difficulties to catch on with the society. Other than making this a tribute to this group of people who contributed to society despite the obstacles, it is also a reminder of how the younger generation can learn from their resilience as we do still have our obstacles in the current days. • Specialisation: Digital filmmaking, Documentary • Keywords: Social sciences, Mass media, Broadcasting, Motion pictures and films, Documentary, Nantah, History | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/67226 | Schools: | School of Art, Design and Media | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
