Abstract: This Final Year Project report is to demonstrate what we had done and learnt from the hydraulic experiment which was carried out to explore the velocity law of grains moving over channel bed. To find out the velocity pattern of grains, we set up different conditions by changing flow rate, slope of channel bed and various size of moving particles & bed particles. Before we got started, we went through some past researches and were taught by Prof Chen to have basic understanding of this study so that the experiment could be conducted successfully. When we collected our data, the comparison with previous researches was carried out and discussion followed. In the experiment, the velocity of grains will be calculated by recording the time spent to pass a fix distance. The new concept for us was the dimensionless analysis which could gather the data and show their linear relationship in a proper axis system. The dimensionless analysis also could exclude the effects of several variates in order to learn the relationship between grain velocity and shear velocity.
