Abstract: Since the early 21st century, the concept of smart grid has been known by all over the world. It has the advantages of reliability, flexibility, efficiency, sustainability and so on. However, there are lots of challenging facts such as security, cost and reliability. First of all, it is the safety concern of unpremeditated islanding. During power blackout period, some parts of the grid are disconnected from the grid, but they are not shut down [1]. Secondly, the cost for the key elements of micro-grid such as renewable energy source, energy storage and advanced load generation controls are normally higher than the traditional power systems. Therefore, it is significant to develop a new smart grid modelling system to resolve the limitation and reduce the cost. The aim of this project is to setup a small scale ac micro-grid test bed to improve the performance of robust servomechanism controller. There are three basic units included in the overall system: DG (distribution generators) unit, Load unit and feedback control unit. When micro grid is switched to the islanded mode, the controller will be closely monitoring the load changes. When the load changes, the system will automatically calculate and control the input voltage according to the collected data varied such as input current (Il), input voltage (Vi), output current (Io) and output voltage (Vo). In the end, the voltage and frequency stability of micro grid will be maintained through robust control.
