|Title:||Design rules for material jetting process: study of process capability and manufacturing constraints||Authors:||Wang, Chengcheng||Keywords:||DRNTU::Engineering||Issue Date:||2016||Abstract:||As a novel manufacturing technology that emerged in the late 1980s, Additive Manufacturing (AM) is able to fabricate parts with complex geometry layer by layer. However, due to the lack of good design rules for AM systems, the end-users may spend a lot of time and money to determine how to design and fabricate parts with good quality. This paper aims to carry out a comprehensive investigation on design rules by studying the process capability and manufacturing constraints for material jetting process. Benchmark characterization was performed in terms of the part accuracy, surface quality, minimum size and clearance for various features, which were built at different orientations and positions. This is the first attempt to establish the baseline of process capability study for AM.
