|Title:||Simulation-based flight plan determination in real-time air traffic flow management||Authors:||Loh, Jovi Si Jie||Keywords:||DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering||Issue Date:||2016||Abstract:||Air traffic congestion is an uprising issue that is a potential problem faced by society as the constant and increasing need to travel to different places for various reasons such as work or pleasure are on the rise. When airport and airspaces reaches their maximum capacity, there would be delays as there is too many aircraft operating and not enough space. To avoid congestions and delay, improvement must be made to Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) so that delays and congestions are minimal. Flow models such as the Aggregated and Eulrian models have been used and research on how to improve ATFM but both have their advantages and disadvantages. Mathematical optimization is used to optimize ATFM. Therefore, coding involving these models are needed to be used in a simulation program to test different models and determine the different outcome of each test. To run the simulation, data such as waypoints coordinates are required to be input into the program to portray the Air Traffic Service (ATS) Routes. But this data are given in Microsoft Excel, and the simulation program can only read the data in a certain format. The Methodology section shows the coding and how these data are being processed by using Microsoft Excel Visual Basic for Application (VBA) to put them in the proper format required by the simulation program. It also explain how the code works and finally shows the end result after running the VBA code.
