Title: Stem cell labeling by magnetotacitic bacteria for mri imaging

Abstract: Cell therapy is regarded a pillar for health care industry. However, currently its wide application is challenged by a reliable way to monitor therapeutic cells once delivered into the patient body. Several approaches are being investigated, one of the most promising is MRI with paramagnetic nanoparticle as cell tracking agent. Even with its stellar advantages such as non-invasive, nontoxic, high penetration and high resolution, its lack of long-term applicability due to signal dilution is a challenge that needs solution. One such solution is proposed by Bell Biosystem, a living contrast agent derived from magnetotactic bacteria capable of multiplying intracellularly, effectively maintaining high signal intensity for a long period of time. In this project, we will investigate the effectiveness of Magnelle in term of long-term applicability, by comparing it with commercial iron oxide nanoparticle.
