Abstract: Following a rising popularity of renewable energy since the last decade, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, the most representative form of renewable energy, has gathered the interest from everyone all around the globe. However, the solar PV energy also infamous for its fluctuating nature and low efficiency. Among all the proposed measures to solve the solar intermittencies, battery is always the key element for compensating the energy deficit during the hour without sufficient sunlight to ensure a constant energy supply and maintain power quality. A DC microgrid consisting of the integration of DC buses, battery and PV panels that can be linked up by DC-DC converters. In this project, a three channel DC-DC converter hardware prototype is set up and the control algorithms are programmed to maximize the efficiency of PV panel as well as protecting the circuit in high power condition. In order to achieve the objectives, the MPPT mode, voltage and current control mode are proposed to regulate the power flow. The multi-mode control is tested out separately and combined together to form the DC microgrid. During the experiments, the simulation of mathematical model and MATLAB Simulation model provide a reference to verify the feasibility of the multiple control modes.
