Abstract: Bluetooth low energy (BLE) is a wireless personal area network technology developed to target novel applications in the healthcare, fitness, beacons, security, and home entertainment industries. The focus of the design of BLE is to achieve the lowest possible power consumption, optimized for low cost, low bandwidth, low power and low complexity. The aim of this Final Year Project is to introduce BLE via an Android tutorial wizard. It will cover the basics of BLE and layout a straight forward guide to allow beginners to understand BLE. The objective is to create an interactive and informative application that will help students in understanding BLE better. The main focus is on software programming on the Android platform using Nexus 7 as the target device, interfacing with Texas Instruments Sensor Tag to achieve live data transfer. The end product is an Android application that is user friendly and consists of BLE overview with a step by step guide on interfacing with Android devices. It will provide the user with basic understanding of BLE and the user should be able to identify the main steps of BLE implementation. Literature review of pedagogy methods and the effect of colours on human memory have been referenced to identify the most effective method to deliver the tutorial guide. The aim is to mellow down the learning curve with regards to BLE with the assumption that the user have no prior knowledge of BLE.
