Title: ST-35X Dynamic responses of reinforced concrete frames under single column removal scenario

Abstract: The ability of a building to mitigate progressive collapse is the main interest with increasing number of terrorist attacks. Using column removal scenario, Alternate Load Path (ALP) approach is one of the direct methods to mitigate progressive collapse. Previous research on two-dimensional (2-D) Reinforced Concrete (RC) under column removal scenario mainly focused on Concentrated Loading (CL) quasi-static procedures while the real progressive collapse is under dynamic and the loading in most buildings is normally uniformly distributed. Thus, two series of experiment, which consisted of Uniformly Distributed Loading (UDL) quasi-static and free-fall dynamic tests on RC frames, were carried out to fill the gap in current research. The objective of the tests is to compare the structural behaviour between quasi-static and dynamic specimens. The study was focused on applied load level, failure modes, crack patterns and effect of boundary conditions. Lastly, the dynamic experimental results were compared against pseudo-static resistances based on energy approach.
