Title: Nietzsche and Joyce : the celebration of life in Ulysses
Authors: Yeo, Tse Yin Tessa Marie
Keywords: DRNTU::Humanities
Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: This paper suggests the value of reading James Joyce's Ulysses through the lens of Friedrich Nietzsche, exploring his philosophies on the 'free spirit', 'perspectivism' and eternal recurrence. While Joyce does encounter some problems with the Nietzschean ideal of a 'free spirit', this paper will argue that he is ultimately able to bring these contradictory views into a harmonious balance by the end of the novel.
