Abstract: Smart shopping cart is a revolutionising topic to help improve off-line shopping experience and reducing the phenomenon of long queues at the checkout counters. This report introduces the Final Year Project, Smart Shopping Cart Based on Embedded System and Digital Image Processing, which is to design and prototype a new smart shopping cart model using the digital control system and image processing technology. The shopping cart model is able to recognise the barcode of the commodities and verify them by weight detection. Successfully verified commodities are automatically sent to the secured box by a motor control system based on Arduino boards and the price would be calculated simultaneously. The secured box is unlock only when the payment process is completed. The implementation of the project was divided into hardware building, barcode scanning module, weight detection module, motor control system and project integration. The experimental results indicate that the proposed smart cart system significantly speeds up the payment process and provides safer shopping modes than other self checking systems.
