Title: Development and creation of responsive 3D data and 3D objects for a 3D data visualizer
Authors: Quek, Valerie Yanping
Keywords: DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering
Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: Data is all around us, and the amount of data that is being collected, stored and retrieved has been rapidly increasing in size as technology advances. Over the years, data has evolved to not only consist of structured data (numbers, characters, statistics, etc.), but also unstructured data (documents, maps, photos, graphics, sound, videos, etc.). Hence this project aims to show and discover how Virtual Reality is a better presentation layer for data in 3D form. This Final Year Project is a combined team effort of 3 students, and this final report studies how 3D objects will be created, why and how those 3D objects will be used to represent 3D data in Virtual Reality, and why Virtual Reality is a better presentation layer for this type of data. This final report also serves as an overview of the author’s progress in her Final Year Project (FYP) from AY16/17 Semester 1 to AY16/17 Semester 2. This project was also a semifinalist at the 2017 Microsoft Imagine Cup competition
