|Title:||Analysis of jointed rock slopes and optimized stabilization design||Authors:||Liu, Hongze||Keywords:||DRNTU::Engineering::Civil engineering::Geotechnical||Issue Date:||2017||Abstract:||The project is carried out with the intension to study the two-dimensional slope sliding and three-dimensional wedge failure mechanism. In the first part, the deterministic analysis is conducted to analyze the slope stability. Effects of water pressure, tension crack and reinforcement on the rock slope stability are illustrated. Reliability analysis is explored, and an intuitive constrained optimization approach for the first-order reliability method (FORM) is studied. FORM will be applied to analyze the effects of parametric uncertainties and optimum stabilization parameters in the case of Sau Mau Ping slope in Hong Kong. Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to be the verification method. In the second part, vectorial method proposed by Hoek and Bray (1981) is studied. Spreadsheets are made for the two solutions of the vectorial method. Comparison is made among closed-form equations, vectorial method and the software Swedge 6.0 version. Deterministic analysis and reliability analysis are used to analyze the stability of Interstate Highway 40 (I-40), North Carolina, USA. Remedial measures of reducing the slope face angle and the drainage system installation are proposed and verified. In the third part, literature study about Eurocode 7 is performed. One reinforced rock slope is selected for the demonstration of the reliability-based design. The deterministic calculation based on the design approach 1 (DA1) of Eurocode 7 is completed. The comparison between Eurocode 7 and the reliability-based design is discussed.||URI:||http://hdl.handle.net/10356/71214||Rights:||Nanyang Technological University||Fulltext Permission:||restricted||Fulltext Availability:||With Fulltext|
