Title: | Ownself check ownself | Authors: | Nai, Iyn Huii | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Visual arts | Issue Date: | 2017 | Abstract: | ‘Ownself Check Ownself’ is a project that takes precedence and influence from the Buddhist philosophical concept of Sunyata (a.k.a. emptiness) and how it impacts our perceptions of the Self. Through a series of personal experimentation, information visualisations and performance, the artist attempts to observe and study how the prevalent Self is manifested in her daily life in order to make evident the importance of the Non-Self in her consciousness and awareness. The exercises serve to explain the impermanent, insubstantial and empty nature of the Self and how we should be aware of the way it affects our emotions and behaviors. The project hopes to present an alternative perspective to people whom have not heard of Sunyata, and a reminder to those who know of it. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/71219 | Schools: | School of Art, Design and Media | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
