Title: | Anywhere and anytime urban and indoor localization | Authors: | Wen, Xin | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering | Issue Date: | 2017 | Abstract: | This report summarises what have been done in the past one year and presents the findings during the process of completing the project. We first discuss the motivation for studying and developing indoor positioning techniques, followed by the typical approach in tackling a positioning problem. Among all existing system, we decide to focus on a new proposal from MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL), called Chronos, attracted by its significant cost savings. We then study papers related to Chronos, a proposed indoor positioning system by MIT CSAIL that enables a single Wi-Fi access point to locate objects with an accuracy of tens of centimetres. Furthermore, we implement the key algorithms underlying the system that enables it to compute time-of-flight with an accuracy of sub-nanoseconds using commodity Wi-Fi cards. Thereafter, we tested and analysed simulation results in each step to show that the prototype can achieve an accuracy of sun-nanoseconds in a theoretical environment. Meanwhile, we discussed the choices of parameters that will increase the accuracy with a minimum increase in the cost of time. Finally, we proposed and discussed the future works need to be done in further development. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/71250 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Organisations: | A*STAR | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
