Title: | We | Authors: | Ang, Hwee Chieh | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Design::Product | Issue Date: | 2017 | Abstract: | we is a delicate weave bringing Sally, Jarene and I together through design and communication. Living with Moebius and Worster Drought syndrome, Jarene meets challenges with facial expressions and salivating issue. Working together with her mom, Sally in creating functional apparel designs in hope to empower Jarene, to be the person her heart truly desires. Jarene’s big personality and talent in sports and music proved, with patience, perseverance and right form of assistance, we can unravel who we are truly meant to be. A friend and mentor, Sally’s encouragement and willingness to share throughout this journey expanded my horizon in unexpected ways, led me to delve into questioning the paradox between the pursuit of being different amidst society’s standards and the crave for acceptance amidst individuality. Helping Jarene look more dignified in public not only empowers her, it levels the playfield a little between special needs and non-special needs children, allowing more opportunities for her to pursue in being the best of herself. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/71270 | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
