Title: | Shape memory foam for helmet | Authors: | Ng, Deannz Wei Ting | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Chemical engineering::Polymers and polymer manufacture | Issue Date: | 2017 | Abstract: | This paper believes that with the material characteristics listed for the Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), there is a large possibility and potential for the use of TPU in the manufacturing of helmet. There are many types and design of helmet available in the market. There is helmet for motorcycle, helmet for bicycle, safety helmet for construction site usage, helmet for recreational use, helmet for soldiers etc. The primary function of helmet is to protect the user’s head against impact. However, due to the activities or purpose of the user, the functionality and properties of the helmet need to be adjusted accordingly. Therefore, different helmet design is required to fulfill the functionality of helmet and specific properties of the material shall be selected to suit the usage of the helmet. For discussion, the paper will focus on the military helmet for soldiers and the use of TPU to enhance the comfort fit of the military helmet for long duration of usage. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/71575 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
