Abstract: Wireless technology has made huge strides in improvements to provision of service to end-users over the years. It no longer caters to the needs of mobile phones or tablets, but also to the integration into vehicles. This integration has enabled the use of several applications for communication in both public and private transportation systems. As the demands for utilising wireless technology grows extensively, Long Term Evolution (LTE) provides a cutting edge technology standard developed to answer the demands for high data rate delivery and the potential to support swifter downloads of real time information for traffic conditions. However to date, it remains highly vulnerable to attacks to the network. This paper proposes a novel protocol that has made further improvements to an existing scheme for handovers. It has been verified logically and in a systematic way, and has been found to offer a higher level of security while executing a handover with lower delays and energy consumption.
