Abstract: The Smart Home Program is the next possible upgrades that can be implemented once the Internet of Things reaches its peak. However, “Smart Devices” does not come cheap nor affordable. Alternatives have been researched to reduce the cost of owning such smart devices or appliances. An embedded system will be an excellent candidate for prototyping of a Smart Home Program. Raspberry Pi seems to be a good alternative solution as the cost of one such microcomputer is cheap and affordable. Raspberry Pi is also a modular device which can support many different functions. A Smart Home is made up of many functions and the Raspberry Pi is able to this requirement. These functions may come in the forms such as Information Visuals, Home Security and Entertainment. The method to achieve this Smart Home Program will involve intensive modifications of Michael Teeuw’s MagicMirror2. In this report, the Smart Home Program will be based on 3 Smart Home Cores. These cores include Smart Home Visuals, Entertainment, Security and Control. Each of these cores will be discussed and the results will be presented in the later chapters. The method to achieve this Smart Home Program will involve intensive modifications of Michael Teeuw’s MagicMirror2.
