This project develops a mathematical model for a standalone PMSG based wind energy system with HESS and its corresponding MATLAB model for voltage and frequency control of the load. The MATLAB model includes sub-modules for the wind turbine, the PMSG, the boost converter, the HESS, the HESS control mechanism and the SPWM inverter control. The HESS is composed of a battery and a supercapacitor to cater to fast changing loads and gradual load changes. The boost converter and the HESS control the DC-grid voltage for the inverter. A dynamic RL load is used to emulate a stand-alone system. This report systematically analyses the mathematical model along with the MATLAB Simulink models and presents test scenarios with changing wind speed and dynamic loading to test the model implemented.
