Abstract: Research topics in fluid mechanics have led to many discoveries and yet, there are still areas that call for further investigation and development. This paper provides a comprehensive literature review on the existing tecnologies of current research areas and a preliminary design of an experimental test rig. In the design and manufacturing industry, additive manufacturing has prevailed as one of the most widely used manufacturing methods in many industries. Artificial heart valves have become one of the most important research areas in biomedical mechanics, signified by its ability to save and improve lives. The designs of wind turbines have seen drastic developments since it was first created, due to the importance of wind energy, especially now that fossil fuels are being depleted. Despite these research topics having come a long way since first discovered, scientists and researchers still feel that there is more that has not yet been revealed, hence, studies are constantly being done and improvements are continually being made.
