Abstract: Merged , is an interactive documentary on Singapore’s biggest school merger, which takes a deeper look at the city-state’s changing social and education landscapes, by focusing on Tampines Junior College (TPJC)’s last days. In April 2017, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that a total of 28 schools — 14 primary schools, six secondary schools and eight junior colleges (JCs) — will be paired and merged by 2019. With a total of 14 schools closing, it is the largest merging exercise ever carried out. This is also the first time JCs will be combined. Merged is not a documentary about loss. It is about TPJC staff, students and alumni discovering their feelings about the college through that impending loss. The documentary serves as a record of Singapore’s evolving outlook through the lens of diminishing collective spaces.
