Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: The purpose of this literature review is to assess the feasibility of selecting sport as a career option in the context of Singapore. The sporting scene in Singapore has changed in a myriad of ways over the years in terms of its progression, opportunities and perspective. This literature review explores the evolution of sport from past to present, how government policies are shaped for sport to burgeon and how it is seemingly more viable to carve a career out of sport in Singapore. Parenting, salary and socio-economic status are key influences that are dissected in greater depth. Comparisons have also been drawn to other countries such as Australia and Hong Kong to contrast differences in government initiatives, elite sporting excellence and their sports administrative structures. These analyses can help draw Singapore to greater sporting heights and thus provide more jobs to strengthen the sports industry.
