dc.description.abstract | As Singapore suffers from an ageing population, the need for health assistance is becoming a greater concern. One of these assistances required is physiotherapy, which is a treatment only effective if done regularly. However, the number of physiotherapists and healthcare workers available have been increasing slowly. In addition, there is a high proportion of elderly who are not adhering to the physiotherapy regime. It would prove more convenient if there was a solution to reduce the need for greater assistance while motivating the patients more to work out and maintain their regular stretches. Further, there is a higher proportion of elderly adopting technology in Singapore. With the advancement of Internet-Of-Things (IoT) in the past decade, the use of various smart technologies like smartphones, tablets, Bluetooth technology by the elderly is becoming a common sight. The Elderly Physical Well-Being System is a model system to exemplify such a solution for physiotherapy centres and hospice homes. It will assist the therapist in keeping records of the patient’s progress while helping to encourage the patients to do the sessions regularly. The system consists of three components: A web server to serve as a communication medium between the client devices, store the information of patients, and to provide a web client platform for therapists or other administrators to access the stored information. A mobile application that facilitates patients’ activities and record their information for the therapist to keep track of their progress. A sensor (SensorTag) to act as an identifier of the patient and to keep track of his or her whereabouts in the vicinity. | en_US |
