Title: | The union of woke netizens | Authors: | Ngai, Madeline | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Design | Issue Date: | 2018 | Abstract: | Digital apathy (compound noun) lack of interest, enthusiasm of concern for how digital culture profoundly affects us as human beings. The public debates about personal data and online privacy gain traction with each day. Our Internet has become a cultivated ecosystem where any and all of our information, activity and behaviour can be collected, analysed and traded beyond our control. We no longer have the luxury to remain apathetic, there is an urgency for each of us as netizens to become aware and critical of the very real consequences of living in the digital environment we have today. The mission of the Union of Woke Netizens is to be a starting platform to disrupting digital apathy— to inspire internet users to be actively inquisitive, to form opinions of their own about the digital reality we face. And to, collectively, contribute to the wider public conversation that will shape the future of our digital culture. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/74425 | Schools: | School of Art, Design and Media | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
