Abstract: Energy crisis is one of the world’s most pressing issue today. With the risk of an energy shortage in the world, there is a greater need to protect the environment and reduce the consumption of energy. Conventional Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) system uses Variable Air Volume (VAV) which requires a substantial amount of energy. Hence, in recent years, more emphasis is given to Passive and Hybrid Thermosiphon Beam (PTB/HTB) as these beams saves energy and cost, at the same time, helps to improve the indoor environmental quality and reduced space requirements etc. However, due to the technical challenges for the application of PTB/HTB in tropical region, the project team has developed a series of relevant solutions and methodologies. In this project, performance testing will be done on both PTB and HTB to compare the velocity air distribution at the duct opening, the cooling air distance from the duct opening and also the cooling capacity of the system, with respect to various water inlet temperature and flow rate.
