Title: Drone tracking using heterogeneous network

Abstract: Drone flying is currently unregulated, but this comes with heavy restrictions on the size of the drone, flight range and maximum altitude. This is mainly because of the technical limitations of the most popular communication link, WiFi. However, if the communication link is improved and there is location tracking of the drones, these restrictions could be eased. This project aims to build a proof-of-concept drone tracking solution using 4G as a communication link. There is a hardware component which is a MangOH Red board with integrated 4G modem, multiple sensors and GNSS to track telemetry including positioning, pressure and temperature information. There is also a cloud database and a frontend webpage that manages the data and visualises it on a 3D map. The purpose is to prove that 4G can be used to track drones with the hopes of better regulations for drone flying and relaxed restrictions.
