Abstract: Global warming has always been a creeping problem in the world since decades ago. This is due to detrimental human activities such as burning of fossil fuels for power, burning down of trees and many more. These activities are irreplaceable due to humanities’ utmost dependence as removing them would compromise comfort and their well-beings. As of current technologies, there have been efforts towards the use of alternative energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines. This project aims to study a selected concept of power generation by ocean waves and its feasibility in Singapore’s context. The project’s focus is to design, fabricate and study the concept of the permanent magnet linear generator. Experiments were conducted on the prototype to understand and improve the design. The data from the experiments were analysed and presented within this report. As the concept is understood better, various methods for improving the design and project were done concurrently with the design process. Recommendations are given for similar future projects.
