dc.description.abstract | Magnetic sensors contribute to a big share of the sensing market [1]. Applications include commercial and automotive sensors. Hall-effect sensor is a common type of magnetic sensor. The Hall-effect sensor depends on the flow of electrons in a semiconductor material to determine magnetic field in terms of voltage. Next type is the magneto-resistive sensors. They are resistors made of materials in which have the tendency to change its electrical resistance in an externally applied magnetic field. In this final year project, the build-and-learn pedagogical methodology shall be discussed on its benefit in learning and application relating to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The framework shall expand on the works of the previous projects to allow the land-based robot to make quick and discrete turns. This shall be achieved with the use of a digital compass (QMC5883L) on an Arduino Uno R3 controller board which employs the use of an anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor and its associated coding on the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE). A basic description and comparison shall be made between the two types of magnetic sensors and its working mechanism in the literature review. While more will be elaborated on AMR sensor, we will also elaborate on its application as a digital compass. Lastly, appropriate flow charts shall be used to illustrate the progression and the logical flow of the associated coding to achieve quick and discrete turns. | en_US |
