Abstract: The health of a nation’s citizens has impact on the economic and social health of the society. People who are unwell would not be able to work or effectively contribute to the nation’s economy and may have to rely on social aid. The nation's healthcare system is the pillar for other social functions so it is crucial for it to be sustainable. This paper evaluates the healthcare systems of Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan, thereafter, proposes solutions to challenges identified. The healthcare systems are evaluated based on three characteristics of a sustainable system, which are ‘quality care’, ‘affordable price’ and ‘access to healthcare’. By comparing data gathered from publications and governmental websites with OCED average, we can determine if the healthcare systems of the three studied economies is performing above average or poorly.
