Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: The renewable energy has been increasingly used in the world, and considering the uncertainty of the renewable energy source (RES), the energy storage device (ESD) become essential for the renewable energy system like microgrid. Battery and supercapacitor (SC) are two common ESDs used in the microgrid. In the project, a direct current (DC) simulation system is developed on hybrid energy storage system (HESS) in microgrid using MATLAB/Simulink software. It is used to simulate control coordination between the two ESDs, so that the energy transfer between the source and the energy storage device is smooth and does not affect the load. The simulation system will test on battery’s capacity to supply the load when RES power generation is low, and the SC will reduce current stress on battery and extent battery life span. The system also set the higher and lower limits of the state of charge (SOC) for both ESDs.
