Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: With the increasing usage of location-based services on mobile devices, a large volume of geospatial data is being generated daily. The mobile user faces the difficulty in viewing data of interest which meet user’s needs. This situation highlighted the importance of data management and presentation into useful insights for applications. The project aims to improve map rendering and exploration system with a representative set of data which cater to the user’s interest. The objective of this project is to sample, analyse, extract and present a representative dataset that caters to user’s interest in an efficient way. In this project, three different algorithms; random selection, naive selection, and lazy forward selection algorithm would demonstrate progressive improvement in sampling method for an informative representative dataset. In additional, zoom in/ out and panning constraint would be satisfied to ensure a smooth interactive map experience. The four main areas mainly language component, indexing component, query processing component and visualization component would be served as guidelines in this project. With the improvement on the data management and presentation, this project could be used as a supporting tool to build a better user-centric application for any industry.
