The Peach Blossom Spring imagery originated from Eastern Jin dynasty poet Tao Qian’s (AD 365 – 427)Peach Spring Blossom prose. It embodies the meaning of a utopia distanced from the world. Since the imagery’s entrance into Korea, it has received much discussions from Korean and Chinese researchers. Majority of the current literature regarding the imagery is restricted to using comparative literature between Sino-Korean Peach Blossom Spring literature. Hence, to engage in a holistic discussion of the propagation and interpretation of the imagery , opening further research possibilities regarding the imagery, this dissertation will employ literary reception theory and text analysis on Korean Peach Blossom Spring literature as the focus and comparative literature between Sino-Korean Peach Blossom Spring literature as support. This dissertation will first introduce the literary reception theory and the propagation of Sino-Korean literature exchange to lay the background and foundation for this dissertation. To further prove the legitimacy of the Peach Blossom Spring imagery’s entrance to Korea during the Goryeo dynasty, this dissertation will then compare and analyse the Sino-Korean literature exchange during the Silla and Goryeo dynasties. Furthermore, this dissertation will also employ the literary reception theory to discuss the imagery’s road to acceptance in Korea. In addition, through text and art analysis, this dissertation will also explore the unique traits of Korean Peach Spring Blossom imagery. At the same time, this dissertation will reveal and explore the new cultural aspects of the imagery as well.
