|Title:||谢裕民文学作品与都市现代性 = Urban modernity in the literary works of Chia Joo Ming||Authors:||刘慧敏 Low, Hui Min||Keywords:||DRNTU::Humanities::Literature||Issue Date:||2019||Abstract:||现代性是全球关注的重要议题，自发展以来就在世界各地产生着巨大影响。 Modernity is an important global issue that has been affecting countries all over the world significantly since its development. As Singapore is deeply influenced by western thoughts and culture, the country began moving into modernity right after gaining independence and has successfully transformed from a small island into a global financial hub. However, while bringing people material abundance, the modernization movement in Singapore also led to the decline of traditional cultures and human alienation. Growing up in the sixties and seventies, Chinese Singaporean writer Chia Joo Ming witnessed the rapid growth of the country and its ever-changing surroundings, which he then reflected in his literary writings. This thesis attempts to analyze Chia’s literary works, with regards to the theme of urban modernity, investing his thoughts on the consequences of urban modernity.||URI:||http://hdl.handle.net/10356/76458||Rights:||Nanyang Technological University||Fulltext Permission:||restricted||Fulltext Availability:||With Fulltext|
