Title: | 君绍的散文研究 :本土的观察、记忆与反思 = A study of Jun Shao’s prose: local observation, memory and reflection | Authors: | 陈姿潔 Tan, Zi Jie | Keywords: | DRNTU::Humanities::Literature | Issue Date: | 2019 | Abstract: | 君绍(1927-2014年)是新加坡的散文家、教师与植物学家。 Jun Shao (1927-2014) is a native Singaporean writer, teacher and botanist. He started writing in the 1950s and his writing career spanned more than half a century. Jun Shao often drew his inspirations from the nature, and with his keen observations and profound knowledge in botany, he had made a name for himself with his extraordinary depiction of nature through his writings. His delicate nature writing also made him stood out in a group of post-war essayists. Even though Jun Shao had relatively large number of literary works and that they have displayed the unique traits in his writing, for many reasons, Jun Shao's work did not receive huge attention in the literary world, with sporadic research articles lacking in depth and focusing only on the discussion of his nature writing. This thesis attempts to start off with understanding Jun Shao’s love for the nature and his nature writing, before further exploring the motivations and significances behind his prose creation. The thesis will break through the existing boundaries in the study of Jun Shao's prose, and further discussing the strong local consciousness or nativeness presented in his writings, through analysing the display of local characteristics and his deep concern for the society. Jun Shao's prose not only served as a personal record of Jun Shao’s feelings, but it is also a record of the unique landscapes and the emotions, memories and imaginations of the people living on this land while it underwent tremendous changes in the process of development. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/76468 | Schools: | School of Humanities | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
