Abstract: IoT has become a new frontier of technology and innovation and has received attention worldwide from the manufactures to consumers and from research institutes to developer communities. It has the potential to transform many different industries such as transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, oil and gas and home automation. Home automation has gained interest due to technological advancement and increasing popularity in IoT. With the integration of IoT devices and dramatic improvement on internet connectivity, home automation has transformed into a smart home where users can effortlessly install, monitor and control connected home appliances conveniently over a computer or a mobile device. The motivation behind this project is to develop a smart home system that can be controlled remotely. The project implements a fully functional smart home system based on low-cost NodeMCU development boards as diverse smart home control devices using various open source IoT platforms.
