Issue Date: 2019
Abstract: In this study, the noise characteristics of a carbon resistor is analyzed and compared at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures. The procedure for the noise measurement of the resistor is explained, along with the components of the experimental setup. Background material such Fast Fourier transform which is essential for digital signal processing is introduced. In addition, using a printed circuit board design software known as Altium, a laser current driver which has a sub-circuit that allows for modulation input was designed and then subsequently fabricated into a printed circuit board. The laser current driver, which is updated from the Hall Libbrecht current driver, aims to achieve a high degree of stability and low level of noise.
