dc.description.abstractMachine elements like bearings, gears, pulleys and chains are often used to construct a wide range of machines or parts. The selection of standardized machine element components is performed using a design catalogue or calculation software. Though design catalogues and calculation software allow engineer to perform the selection of machine elements, it is a laborious process which hinders the efficiency of machine element selection. In this project, we aim to address the inefficiencies of the current machine element selection methods through: 1) Integrating the design catalogues of different manufacturers into a database. 2) Creating a program that that allows users to automate the selection of machine elements from different manufacturers by inputting design parameters. The resulting product is a web application called AMES (Automated Machine Element Selector) that allows users to select the most suitable machine element components simply by inputting design parameters. The web application first performs the relevant design calculations based on user input before displaying the relevant information in a structured filterable table. The use of AMES will reduce the time required for engineers to obtain relevant machine elements from different companies.en_US
