Title: | 4D latte art | Authors: | Ng, Han Peng | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Mechanical engineering | Issue Date: | 2019 | Abstract: | This project aims to create a 4D latte art that can be placed onto a cup of beverage. As the market’s latte art are limited to 2D flat pieces that showcases simple pictures and designs, this project wants to create a 4D piece that can change its shape when placed on water. The project first researches on shape memory effects and the materials associated with the effect. Next, latte art in the current market is explored. Experiments are then conducted to create a suitable membrane and test its properties. It is found that gelatine is a suitable material for such an application, as its shape memory properties can be utilized for this purpose. By incorporating hot programming and using its water responsiveness capabilities, the gelatine membrane can be folded into a 3D shape and unfolds when placed on top of a cup of water. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/78631 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
