Abstract: The present study focuses on the language use of the Indian Muslim community in Singapore, specifically their use of the Malay language as a second language. It employs a qualitative method to study 3 Indian Muslim families with different levels of Malay use. It aims to find how they started speaking Malay, and the factors affecting their language choices.
