dc.description.abstractTremendous attention has been made to the development of high energy and power lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) used in electric vehicles. Unfortunately, existing commercial graphite anode material has inadequate high energy and power density. Recently, Li3VO4 (denoted as LVO) anode has been reported as a promising insertion type material to replace graphite due to theoretically higher capacity (395 mAh g–1) and cycling stability. Furthermore, LVO has an appropriate voltage window of 0.5–0.8 V vs. Li+/Li. This allows greater security since safety issues are commonly associated with the formation of Li dendrites that happens below 0.1 V vs. Li+/Li. Apart from LVO, vanadium sulfide VS4 is another promising anode material with a high theoretical specific capacity of 1196 mAh g-1. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the morphological effect, along with the effect of compositing LVO and VS4 with carbon on electrochemical performances.en
