Abstract: A two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DoF) dynamic model is proposed to predict the response of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs subjected to low-velocity impact. In this model, the slab stiffness is calculated based on its dynamic load–displacement curve, which is built using moment–curvature analysis and critical shear crack theory. The contact between the impactor and the impacted RC slab is modelled with an elastic spring and a viscous damper. The effectiveness of the 2-DoF model was verified by comparisons with experimental data. The results obtained from the 2-DoF model are further processed to show the distribution of impact energy during the impact process, and a simple method is recommended for a quick estimation of the energy capacity of RC slabs.
