Abstract: This paper illustrates the use of a custom-modified logging system to collect field data at signalised junctions to study red-running violations. Operational and memory requirements of the system in terms of detecting stationary traffic and monitoring signal phase are discussed. The validation results demonstrate that the data logging system, working in conjunction with loop sensors, is functioning within acceptable limits. The logging system thus provides a viable alternative to be traditional use of video cameras, especially for field evaluation studies at signalised junctions.
